Remember when the TV series LOST first came out? The viewers were riveted by the mystery, intrigued by the characters and excited as back stories fleshed things out. Die hard fans began websites dedicated to the show, poring over details and nuances. I remember reading a chart at one of those sites that had each character's 'issues' on it. It was stunning how many characters had daddy issues. Just about all of them did!
How could such an innovative show get away with being so banal? Well for starters, just because something is common or even overdone doesn't mean that it is hackneyed. The fact is that daddy issues are real and grossly common. Because of that, it is totally believable that twenty random people would all be dealing with Daddy in one way of another.
I wonder if God knew that so many of us would be left empty and longing when it came to this crucial relationship--well, of course--and I wonder if that is one of the reasons He introduced Himself to us as the Father. He knew so many of us would need one.
